adv 1. совсем, совершенно, почти не, совсем не; 2. вообще; 3. пожалуйста (1). В значении 1. at all употребляется: а) только в отрицательных предложениях:She was not frightened at all — Она совсем не испугалась.
He does not know anything at all — Он совсем/вовсе ничего не знает;
б) в предложениях, содержащих отрицательный смысл предлога without:Man can do without any food at all quite a long time — Человек может довольно долго совсем не есть (обходиться совсем без пищи);
в) в предложениях с конструкцией too + прилагательное (причастие И) + инфинитив:He was too tired to do anything at all — Он так устал, что совсем ничего не мог делать;
г) в предложениях, содержащих отрицательное по смыслу наречие hardly — едва ли:He could hardly play football at all — Он почти совсем не умел играть в футбол.
She hardly ate anything at all — Она почти ничего не ела.
He could hardly walk at all — Он едва шел.
(2). Наречный оборот at all употребляется в вопросительных предложениях: Do you speak this language at all? В таких предложениях ему соответствует русское вообще: Вы вообще-то говорите на этом языке (хоть сколько-нибудь)? В утвердительных предложениях может употребляться оборот if at all, выражающий сомнение:He will come soon if he comes at all — Он придет скоро, если вообще придет.
It occurs very rarely if at all — Это случается крайне редко/Это почти никогда не случается.
(3). Сочетание not at all употребляется в качестве вежливого ответа на выражение благодарности и соответствует русскому пожалуйста, не стоит:— Thank you for your assistance.
— Not at all.
